Jason + Naomi | Reno, NV Anytime/Maternity Portraits

Pregant women have a special glow to them. Mix that with the extra special bounce in your step you get on your birthday... and what do you get? A very beautiful Naomi.
I met Jason and Naomi a year or so ago at church. I couldn't help but fall in love with Naomi. She was so cute and crafty, and definately someone with a kindred spirit to mine. I knew I wanted to be her friend. Last spring she and her hubby found out they were expecting, and we started scheming about a maternity session.
When we met up this fall to hold her session, I found out it was her birthday! She was so excited to spend her birthday with her hubby and with me, having a super fun maternity portrait session at the University of Nevada, Reno campus. I was honored. I had so much fun spending the day with both Jason and Naomi. Congratulations to the two of them on their new bundle of joy, Lewis who was born on Christmas day.

2011 Review

Boring, anxious, and empty. When I started this year, I had no bookings, nada, zilch, zulch. I wasn't sure where I wanted my business to go, and I wasn't trying to get anything moving, but rather, hoping it would blossom on its own. Then one inquiry lead to another and another, and my photography business started to pick up. I am so blessed to have worked with so many amazing clients this year. If I could reach through my computer and give all of you big hugs, I would! (but maybe I'll have to save them until our next sessions). But honestly, thank you. 2011 was a big year of growth. It started off with nothing, and finished with more than I could believe. I've begun dreaming up big ideas and plans for my photography business for 2012. And I can't wait for all the new clients I'll get to meet along the way. I'll be posting the backlog of 2011 weddings and portrait sessions for everyone to enjoy soon, so check back, and tell your friends! Happy New Year!

A sick puppy

Is there a negative correlation between how often you get sick, and how sick you get? I haven't been sick since I had Swine/H1N1 flu in 2009, and I feel like death. My head feels like a balloon thats being dragged thousands of feet underwater. My cough sounds like a dying gargoyle. And I don't recognize the tired haggard person that stares back at me from the mirror.

Its odd how you forget what it feels like to be sick. Of course now that I am sick, I can't remember what it feels like to be normal. Hopefully normal is right around the corner. I'm so thankful I have an amazing husband. He's been making dinner, cleaning, making breakfast, packing his own lunch, and running errands for me. He even brought me hot and sour soup, which is the best soup in the whole world.

These past couple days I've been surviving on lemon/honey tea, emergen-c, water, and Ugly Betty. I think I watched almost an entire season on Netflix on Wednesday. Jeff & I got the kinect system for Christmas, and it lets you control the xbox completely by voice. So my sick little behind doesn't even have to budge to play another episode or pause, I just say "xbox pause" or whatever I want it to do. The only way it could be better is if I should say "xbox bring me more tea" or "xbox make me some soup."

The worst part about being sick is not being able to do anything. I know I have a million things to do at the office, and even more to do for photography at home, but I have no energy to do any of them. I tried to clean up the kitchen this morning and completely wore myself out. I feel so lazy laying on the couch all day, watching Ugly Betty and taking naps. I know its my body's way of fighting off this bug, but it sucks.

Anyone have any tips on how to get over being sick quickly? I want to be done!

Blah Blah Blah...

I'm not sure how many posts I've written that started "Its been a while since I blogged..." and were followed by "...but I'll be better" (written or just determined in my mind). But frankly, I don't care, and I don't think you do either. No one wants to read on and on about empty promises or lame excuses. A blog isn't a self will generating journal.

So blah blah blah. Enough of that has been said in the past. Here's what's new with me (or us.. I have an incessant desire to use us/we to refer to myself when I'm talking business-y stuff... Is that normal?)

I'm thilled for the new year. New goals, new ideas, new, new, new. New couples getting engaged and married. New families having children. A new year of seniors graduating.

I just finished the last wedding of last year on New Years Eve. I used a new lens, and was a little worried with how it performed, but after reviewing the images, it was much better than expected!

I'm dying to have a fire in our fireplace. After living here for 4 years, we have yet to get the chimney swept. This year will be the year. (and maybe we'll get some snow?)
I'm waiting patiently to use my inherited pottery kiln and kick wheel. It's old and needs new parts, but I'm not the engineering fix-it type, and have no clue where to even begin. So I asked for it to be fixed for Christmas. And for a food processor. My dad promised to fix the kiln and my hubby got me a food processor. {and we also got a juicer!!}

And finally, my workflow chart made of post-its, string, and scribbled arrows is paying off. I'm almost caught up with client proofs! jk... about the post-it chart. (Although at one point in my photo history that is what I used *shudder*.) A couple more sessions and I'll have bunches of happy clients.

Until then, all my lovely clients {and hopefully soon to be clients} - I love you! Enjoy this beautiful image of a long exposure of the night sky from a wedding this past fall.

Hannah | Hope Valley CA Senior Portrait Session {Sneak Peek}

I have a happy dance that is reserved specifically for rockin' photographs. Not many clients get to see my happy dance since I usually wait to review images from their session until they are on my computer. However, I'm pretty sure Hannah got to witness my weird little dance at least a couple times throughout her session. She was a natural to work with and I have so many great portraits of her! Here's a preview - one that received my happy dance during the session.
(Oh and can you believe how beautiful the fall were colors in Hope Valley?! Everything was golden!)

Keith + Alissa | Valhalla CA Wedding {Sneak Peek}

I met Keith and Alissa for the first time when we met up for their Genoa Engagement Portrait Session back in May! I fell in love with Alissa's down to earth personality and Keith's gentleman attitude. I was so excited for their Valhalla wedding and when it finally arrived in October, it did not disappoint. It was full of rustic scenery and DIY details. Here's a sneak peek!

Adam + Ally | Minden NV Wedding Photography

I adore Adam and Ally. They were so much fun to photograph and their wedding day perfectly reflected their lighthearted but sweet love for each other. The ceremony began with Ally singing Adam a song that she wrote for him. Then just before they kissed, Ally brushed her teeth and Adam popped a few Altoids. The toasts were followed by the best man reading advice luggage tags that had been humourously filled in by guests. And after a send off that included cardoors taped shut, confetti in the air conditioner, and window paint, I joined them Genoa for time they'd set aside for portraits of the two of them. I was so blessed to be part of their special day.
Adam and Ally - Congratulations!! I wish you years and years of happiness and love.
